Let's buy magazines that make us feel uncomfortable about ourselves.

Magazines these days, what a joke. ALL of the women, men, children, and teens that show up in popular magazines that we read are all photo shopped because our flaws are not allowed to be showed to the public. Seriously, what a joke. I mean what kind of message are we sending to young children these days, that we need to be extremly skinny to be considered beautiful in today's society? Well that's what all these magazines are insisting. It's very rare that you see average people on the covers of People Magazine or Vogue and that bugs me, not that I read those magazines anyway, but just the people that are in it are too skinny for me. Yet, girls now a days only have their mind set to skinny is pretty and if you're just a pound or two over then all hell breaks loose. Grow up, that's why diseases such as bulimia or anorexia are well known now a days. I can't say much about it, but I know a pretty good amount of this stuff since one of my best friends has been in this position. But is skinny really better? If we have to go through great lengths just to fit the standard woman's stereotype that's posted everywhere now a days. My answer: you're beautiful as you are, stop trying to be like photo shoped models, because we all know it's not real.

  1. Your blog got me thinking about how celebrities as well are pressured to stay skinny. The moment a celebrity has an unflattering picture or a small stomach sticking out, people think it is a baby bump. Why can't they just have gained weight. Yet, a lot of magazines are going towards the more healthier look. It is great to see magazines pointing out healthy looking celebrities. However, magazines still won't stop photo shopping the people on their covers because let's face it: who would buy a magazine with a girl with pimples and black heads on her body?

  2. I agree..the image and message we send to girls is very powering. I don't think the creators realize how much of an impact they are putting out there for girls and women of all ages.

  3. I agree with what your saying, but I think the creators do understand that its unrealistic because they aren't super skinny or whatever, but that is what people are used to and that's what they will buy.

  4. I agree that it's unfortunate that we've made this shift to being accustomed to the idea that skinny is beautiful, but we fail to realize that we have no control over corporations and that they have every right to market their product however they please.

  5. I agree with you Kat. Magazines advertise to much unrealistic images. Nobody can be as perfect as the images displayed in magazines. The images of women and men in the advertisements are photoshopped to look so good.
